While many had said that David Obua and Tinashe Nengomasha had gone off the boil in recent months, the pair continued their resurgence when they put up a note worthy performance against United in Pietermaritzburg, Obua followed up a hard working performance against Orlando Pirates with another solid showing against United. While Chiefs recorded their first away win over Maritzburg United in the PSL, Nengomasha and Obua along with defender Siphiwe Mkhonza celebrated personal milestones after Sunday’s game.

For Tinashe Nengomasha his appearance during Sunday’s game marked the 150th game in all competitions that the dynamic midfielder has started for The Amakhosi. Nengomasha, who joined Chiefs during the 2001-2002 season, has now played a total of 160 games for in the famous gold and black strip of The Phefeni Glamour Boys.

With 150 starting appearances and a further 10 caps for Chiefs as a substitute, the 2003-2004 PSL player of the season is looking forward to turning out in another 150 games for Chiefs. “It never really crossed my mind to think that I had been at Chiefs for almost six seasons, over the 150 games that I have started there have been some good and some not so good games but every time I have worn the Chiefs jersey it has been a special occasion,” he said.

Having now played in a total of 160 games for Chiefs Tinashe, has his focus set firmly on getting to his double century of games adding, “in these last couple of games of this season I have felt that I have gotten back to my best. I would like to continue on with this form through our final game against Silver Stars and into next season, when I hope that I will be able to get my tally of games for the club closer to the 200 match mark”.

Amakhosi defender Siphiwe Mkhonza reached a half century of matches that he has started with his appearance in the starting line up on Sunday, for Mkhonza starting his 50th game was a bonus given the fact that he had been out of action since January.

Mkhonza said; “I did not expect to play on Sunday against Maritzburg United About two hours before kick off the coach told me that I would be in the starting eleven, I must say it was a big shock to me and it was totally unexpected. After sitting out the last four months or so through injury I was really happy to be back in the fray, and the day was made all the more special as it marked a special step for me in my life as a Kaizer Chiefs player.”

Mkhonza, who began wearing the number 44 jersey at the start of the 2005-2006 season, began life as a Kaizer Chiefs player at the beginning of the 2004-2005 season and won the league championship with Chiefs in his inaugural season at the club. Has now made a total of 56 appearances in all official league and cup matches for The Amakhosi, in addition to the 50 matches that he has started Mkhonza has come on as a substitute in six more games.

David Obua completed a trio of players who achieved a note worthy milestone during Sunday’s game, as it was also the 50th game that he had started for Chiefs and it was his 57th game in total for the club. Obua who collected the prize for being chosen as Kaizer Chiefs player of the year during the 2005-2006 campaign, along with his team mates will be looking to close off the season on Sunday against Silver Stars with a win which could hand Chiefs three much sought after points and possibly see them finish inside the top eight spots in the league.
