Defending champions of the PSL, Kaizer Chiefs, will be looking to record one of their biggest international club victories against former Amakhosi midfielder Stanton Fredericks and his team-mates at FC Moscow, when the two sides meet at the FNB Stadium, Crown Mines, on Saturday, 21 January 2006 (20h00 kickoff).

Chiefs team manager Bobby Motaung said the fact that Fredericks has fitted so well into the FC Moscow way of play is an indication that fans can expect to witness entertaining football at FNB Stadium on January 21.

“The decision for FC Moscow to tour SA, was reached when officials from official event organisers Jakes Productions on behalf of Chiefs met with FC Moscow officials at the Fifa Expo in Dubai last year, and we are delighted that a club of the magnitude of FC Moscow will be lacing up their boots for action in the Gauteng Province whose slogan of the ‘Home of Champions’ is perfect for a Gauteng-based club such as Chiefs,” said Motaung.

“The match against FC Moscow is the perfect form of preparation for Chiefs with an eye to the remainder of the PSL season which continues in February, and despite the absence of the African Nations Cup bound Bafana Bafana star Jimmy Tau, Ghanaian Louis Agyemang and Zimbabwe’s Tinashe Nengomashe, Chiefs are ready willing and able to give of their best against the famous Russian club.”

Chiefs Marketing Manager Jessica Motaung described the visit by FC Moscow on behalf to SA as a major coup for SA football, and expressed her delight at the fact that Chiefs will be in action against the Russian glamour club.

“While the local PSL season has gone into recess while Bafana Bafana compete in the African Nations Cup in Egypt, the pending arrival of FC Moscow to face Chiefs, will give local football fans much to cheer about,” said Motaung, who thanked the Gauteng Sport, Recreation, Arts and Culture for its partnership for the match.

The match will be preceded by a week of Chiefs’ popular ‘Gold and Rocking’ awareness elements including radio competitions, Corporate Social Initiative player appearances and entertainment on match day that will get Amakhosi fans into Chiefs Mania mood prior to the big kickoff.

Tickets for the match will be on sale from Monday, January 16 at all Computicket outlets at a cost of R20 per ticket.
