Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp hung up his stop watch along with his training gear and headed for a Sandton Hotel on Tuesday where he attended a workshop conducted by the Premier Soccer League, ahead of the start of league fixtures next week.

The Chiefs coach along with his counterparts and representatives from other PSL teams in Gauteng, Limpopo Province, North West and Free State were present at the half day seminar, which began sometime on Tuesday afternoon and ended in the evening.

Former PSL referee and current member of the SAFA Referees Committee Ian McLeod was a key note speaker at Tuesday’s workshop, he addressed the coaches on a wide range of issues, which mainly revolved around the interpretation of certain rule changes.

The Chiefs coach found the workshop beneficial and said that the information passed onto the clubs was highly ‘informative’ and put paid too many unanswered questions he had, specifically regarding, the way referees will implement the changes to the offside laws.

Ernst further described the way in which the workshop was done as highly professional and he reiterated his stance on how important, the work shop was when he said. “It was a good thing that we had this discussion with the referees committee, it will help us because we are now aware as to how the referees are going to react to certain situations so we will be able to prepare our players and equip them so that they do not fall foul of the law”.

With the workshop for coaches in Gauteng and the surrounding provinces over the PSL has moved on to the Coastal Provinces where they will be communicating the same messages to Premier League coaches in based in those provinces.

In other team news midfielder Thabo Mooki who underwent a scan on Tuesday to assess the damage to his hamstring caused by an injury he picked up in Chiefs SAA Supa8 victory against Golden Arrows on Saturday, has been told by Doctors that he will be out of action for the next fortnight.

With this news it means that Mooki will now not be available for selection when Chiefs begin their quest for PSL glory on the 27th August against Supersport United in Tshwane (Pretoria). The news for striker Shaun Bartlett, who missed the Arrows game as he was laid low with a calf injury, is much more positive as he has been told that he should be able to resume full training with the rest of the team on Monday.
