Amakhosi head coach Ernst Middendorp displayed a soft and caring side on Monday morning when he visited the Ethembeni Place of Hope, which is a place of safety for abandoned and orphaned children who are suffering with the HIV/AIDS pandemic.

The coach visited the centre in order to hand over a donation of R42 000 to Major Brenda Greenidge the head of the home.

The Amakhosi coach made the donation in his personal capacity and through it has shown his commitment towards helping the social development of the country. “The opportunity was presented to me in order to assist and after reading through the commitment I had to make and what was to be achieved I was only to happy to assist” said the Chiefs coach.

Major Brenda Greenidge of the Ethembeni home was grateful to the coach for his contribution “we are thankful to Ernst for coming out and assisting us in the way he has and believe me his assistance will make a difference to the lives of these kids”.

The coaches’ contribution will be used to pay the salary of a qualified social worker whose main responsibilities will be to ensure that the children are adopted by foster families into a loving family environment. For Ernst Middendorp his association does not just end with a monetary contribution the coach has said that he will regularly visit the home as well as receive weekly reports on the progress being made by the social worker whose salary he will be subsidising.
