Media Statement: Amakhosi Stadium

Following recent media reports regarding the Amakhosi Stadium, Kaizer Chiefs would like to inform our supporters of the status of this project from the Club’s perspective.

The developer of the stadium at Mogale City is Lefika Emerging Equity, an independent development company.

The relationship between Kaizer Chiefs and Lefika Emerging Equity is based on that of a prospective tenant and landlord respectively. To that end it was intended that as and when the stadium is complete Kaizer Chiefs would become a tenant and adopt the stadium as its home venue.

Kaizer Chiefs has always recognized the importance of having a home stadium for our supporters and it was in that light that we were willing to consider adopting Lefika Emerging Equity’s development at Mogale City as Kaizer Chiefs’ home stadium. We are together with our fans, therefore disappointed that this project has not yet been completed.

We are aware though, that since the project’s announcement in 2006, Lefika Emerging Equity has continued to pursue funding for this development; however the subsequent economic melt-down of the recent past and the resulting credit environment have made the fundraising process particularly challenging.

The stadium has now been redesigned and the resulting economics make it viable for fundraising. This process is now underway and Lefika Emerging Equity has assured us that the fundraising will be completed once Kaizer Chiefs has approved the designs.

Kaizer Chiefs remains committed to adopting a home stadium which lives up to the Club's standards and meets the expectations of its supporters. Accordingly, in the event that Lefika Emerging Equity completes the project at Mogale City to our standards and within a reasonable timeline, we remain interested in assuming the tenancy and adopting the stadium as our home stadium.
