Chiefs previous loses to Ajax Cape Town in the old ABSA Cup in the 2002 – 2003 and 2003 – 2004 seasons as the Nedbank Cup was formerly known don’t mean much to Fabian McCarthy, as Chiefs prepare to meet the Urban Warriors for the first time in a Cup match since the 2003 – 2004 season. McCarthy who has since getting back into the team this season has became an automatic choice on the Kaizer Chiefs team sheet, is looking towards changing the fact that Chiefs are yet to record a win against The Capetonians in South Africa’s premier knock out cup competition.

Different time

The Chiefs central defensive kingpin knows that there is huge expectation on The Amakhosi to do well in the Nedbank Cup and finish off the season with two trophies, and is confident of over turning those previous Cup defeats to Ajax. He explained to kaizerchiefs.com saying “we need to remember that in those past games things were very different to the current situation. Right now we the team that’s not expected to do well and really we out to prove to every one that has written us off that they should think again, we have picked up our game recently and we not really worried about what happened last weekend but instead on what we can achieve on Friday evening”.

Comprehensive knowledge

The Amakhosi according to McCarthy have done their home work on the defending champions and are well aware of the strengths of Ajax who currently top the PSL standings. On this McCarthy added “we played them recently and gave a good showing and they know that we were close to winning that game, obviously doing well there has given us confidence ahead of this match. We not going blind folded into this game as we know the quality of their team, Nathan Paulse, Bryce Moon and the calm old head of Russell Mwafulirwa all have the capability of coming up with that one moment of brilliance that can change the course of the game”.
