BidVest Wits Vs Kaizer Chiefs

Bidvest Stadium, Johannesburg

20th February 2008

Kick Off 20h00

ABSA Premier League

Playing conditions: Slow wind, clear skies temperature at kick off 24°C

Derrick Spencer failed a fitness test on Wednesday morning and as a result had to be omitted from the Chiefs squad that will do duty when they take on BidVest Wits at the Bidvest Stadium in Johannesburg on Wednesday evening.

Apart from Spencer missing the match, Chiefs are pretty much unchanged from the team that played to a goalless draw with Jomo Cosmos on the weekend. Muhsin Ertugral has once more opted for his experienced players to pull Chiefs up the Absa Premiership standings and that has been reflected in his team selection.

McCarthy choice

Ertugral did mention earlier that if Spencer was unable to play on Wednesday he would opt to play McCarthy at central defence. After missing out on the Thanda Royal and Jomo Cosmos matches, McCarthy finds himself returning to face Wits. Although Ertugral would have liked for Spencer to have played against Wits, Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner did tell kaizerchiefs.com that the defender was in pain during his fitness test, and Milner is hoping that he will be back in training on Thursday and at this stage it is unsure whether he will be available for this weekend's meeting with SuperSport United.

Double Centurion

The clash with Wits has a special meaning for Arthur Zwane as it is the Chiefs winger's 200th appearance for The Amakhosi in all competition. Zwane made his debut for Chiefs back in the 2000 – 2001 season when Ertugral was starting his second season as coach during his first spell in charge of the club. Other changes for the Wits game see Sandile Zuke and Thuso Phala make way on the substitute’s bench for Gerald Sibeko who returns after being sidelined by a calf muscle strain and David Obua.
