Rumours in the local media about an injury to Fabian McCarthy have been exaggerated.

Reports that the Chiefs defender had suffered a stroke were unfounded. “I have a case of bells palsy, which has caused some numbness in my face, but that is all,” said McCarthy.

The bells palsy was caused by an abscess in his tooth. “I had pain in the last game of the season, against Martizburg, but I wanted to play and did not go to the dentist. It got inflamed and caused this condition.”

After treating the inflammation and a visit to the dentist he has recovered. “It not been the best way to spend my break but I’m fine now.”

The Chiefs squad are in the off season and will return to Naturena at the end of the month to prepare for the new season under a new coach.

“I’m looking forward to the new season and hopefully I can stay injury-free for the season,” said McCarthy.
