Fabian McCarthy put in a sterling silver display as he notched up his one-hundredth appearance for Chiefs, by guiding the Amakhosi to a 3-1 victory over defending ABSA Cup Champions SuperSport United.

The victory now puts Chiefs into the last sixteen, a stage that Chiefs have been eliminated in the previous three ABSA Cup tournaments.

McCarthy, who made his debut for Kaizer Chiefs in November 2002, has helped Chiefs to win two league titles as well as two Coca Cola Cup triumphs in 2003 and 2004. For the 29-year-old Fabian, a well earned achievement getting to 100 appearances for Chiefs took longer than anticipated. “When I was given the information that this was my 100th game I was rather surprised, being at Chiefs for so many seasons I would have expected to have played more games” said McCarthy.

The Chiefs defender though surprised that it took him longer than expected to get to his first century is looking ahead to getting his next one hundred games “now that I have got the first 100 games under my belt I am looking forward to getting two hundred games and hopefully it will be quicker than this. I would also like to thank all the players who I have played with over the past four years for making these very memorable and mostly successful games”.

Fabian gets the opportunity to add to his collection of Chiefs appearances this week as The Amakhosi have a double bill of matches against Santos on Wednesday night in Cape Town. Chiefs will be involved in their final Soweto derby of the year when they come up against Gavin Hunt and his Moroka Swallows team on Saturday evening.
