McCarthy Cup Woes for Chiefs

Kaizer Chiefs stand in captain from Sundays 2-1 defeat of Silver Stars, Fabian McCarthy will miss Chiefs crucial ABSA Cup Semi Final game against PSL Champions elect Mamelodi Sundowns on Saturday. Chiefs, who will be taking on the Brazilians at the Royal Bafokeng Sports Palace on Saturday afternoon, will now have to do so without the usually reliable and efficient McCarthy. Fabian put in a workman like performance as he lead the charge from the front when Chiefs beat Stars, picked up a hamstring injury during a training session this past week.

Although the injury is not causing him a great amount of grief, Fabian will still be out of action for the next two weeks, Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner explains further “he has done some damage to the hamstring on his right leg, I have told the coach that he will need the next two weeks to rest”. Fabian will in all likelihood miss Chiefs final game of the season against SuperSport United on the 13th May but would have sufficiently recovered should Chiefs make it to the Final of the ABSA Cup on the 20th May.

Other injuries for the week include Kaizer Motaung junior who will also sit out Saturday’s game. Goalkeeper Emile Baron’s season is all but over as he comes to terms with overcoming an old shoulder injury. Rene Richards who has been suffering with a groin problem along with defender Bevan Fransman who in March had an operation as he too was suffering with a groin problem have begun rehabilitation training, which consists mainly of jogging, and some work in the gym. The pair are only expected back in full training some time in the new season.
