McCarthy cleared to play in season finale

Chiefs defender Fabian McCarthy has been given the all clear to feature in Chiefs final match of the season after it was thought that he might have to miss the match against Black Leopards on Sunday, as he had injured his ankle during Wednesday evenings Absa Premiership clash with Bloemfontein Celtic.

McCarthy and the Chiefs defence did well to keep out a plucky and tenacious Celtic team who gave Chiefs a tough physical challenge during Wednesday evening's game. The Chiefs number 6 was starting his eighteenth league game of the campaign and was featuring in his 152nd game in all against Celtic. He had to be substituted with just over ten minutes of the match remaining as he had injured his ankle. He did tell kaizerchiefs.com that he is now looking forward to signing off the season with a win over Leopards on Sunday.

Strong McCarthy

It was a relief for McCarthy who made a trip to the Chiefs physiotherapist on Thursday to discover that he was problem free, “thankfully there is no damage to the ankle and I can train as normal on Friday” was his explanation to the injury. He also said “ I was concerned that it could be a long term problem because I went in hard for the challenge and some times when you come out of a challenge you get the feeling that you came off second best. In the end there is nothing to worry about”.

Seasons end

So now it is onto Thohyandou for McCarthy and his teammates and it is a challenge he is looking forward to playing in, “Leopards are not safe from relegation and that means they will come out and want to do everything to win the match,” added McCarthy. He went to say “we on the other hand have been doing well we have three wins in a row and it will be nice to have a winning end to our season. To end the season with thirteen points out of our last five league games will be an achievement for us, it is always a good feeling playing in the last match of the season it is a nice way to say goodbye to the fans”.
