A Sunday newspaper reported that Mbesuma - Amakhosi’s reliable goalscorer - had caught the attention of Chelsea who were interested securing his services. However, Chiefs appeared to be in the dark about this reported “move”.

"Kaizer Chiefs would like to officially state that so far no official offer has been sent from Chelsea with regards to Collins Mbesuma," said Chiefs in a statement.

"The Kaizer Chiefs Village reopened for business today (Monday) after their festive season break and no correspondence or telephone call has been received with regards the matter. The team manager, Bobby Motaung, wants to reassure the supporters that until a valid and official offer comes through, Collins will be focused on the domestic league as well as the African Champions League, which will commence at the end of the month."

Meanwhile, Chiefs also rubbished reports that they had signed a deal with airline company Emirates.

"Kaizer Chiefs would like to officially state that no deal has been signed with airline company Emirates."

Brand manager Vivian Casaletti confirmed that the deal with British Airways terminated on December 31, 2004 but that there have been no dealings to date with Emirates regarding the possibility of a future sponsorship.

"The story which appeared on a Sunday publication is totally untrue and inaccurate."
