David Mathebula who had to miss Chiefs game a week ago against Golden Arrows with an ankle problem, looked to have shrugged off his injury woes as he started light training on Tuesday. And just as it seemed that the midfield wizard could be working his way towards full fitness for Saturday’s derby with Pirates, he had to rush off the field and was back in the treatment room with a recurrence of the injury which kept him out of the Arrows game and his participation in this weekend's Derby has been placed in serious doubt as a result.
Medical Concern
Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner did voice his concern at the fact that Mathebula had aggravated his injury and said, “we knew that his ankle was very tender so we gave him only a light training routine on Tuesday in order to assess his over all progress. The report that I was given is that towards the end of the session he pulled out saying that his ankle was giving him trouble again. We will treat him again on Wednesday and see how he responds, at this stage it would be safer to assume that he is not going to play on Saturday”.
Ertugral has begun his planning for the derby with out Mathebula in mind, “we knew that it would be touch and go for David” explained Ertugral. “So we started the week with out penciling him in and it looks as though we need to carry on with out David in our plans” concluded Ertugral.
Mathebula pain
It was a disconsolate and dejected Mathebula who trudged back to the physiotherapist’s room on Tuesday, and explained to kaizerchiefs.com the agony of having to miss the derby and said. “Things were going well until the last part of the training routine, and then I felt this sharp pain in my ankle and it just got worse. The physio says my chances of playing in the match are not too good. It is disappointing as the Soweto derby against Pirates is one of those matches you look forward to playing in all season long”.
