Amakhosi midfielder Mandla Masango set up a goal and scored another as South Africa U23 defeated Botswana U23 5-0 in a friendly international match played in the South Eastern town of Lobatse in Botswana on Sunday afternoon.

Masango got Shakes Mshaba’s team on their way to a convincing win as he set up Sibusiso Khumalo for the SA U23’s first goal speaking to kaizerchiefs.com after the game a delighted Masango said.

“The coach gave me a number of roles in the midfield I played down the middle and also on the wings, I thoroughly enjoyed the game and felt that I was able to carry out the coaches instructions.”

The game against Botswana was a warm up for the SA U23 team as they prepare for their first qualifying game for the 2012 London Olympics which is against Libya on the 27th March in Daveyton.

While Masango was pleased to get the run out against the young Zebras he does believe that next week’s game will be a very different one, “we happy that we managed to pick up a win.

Winning is always good for a team but we not getting carried away with the victory the game against the Libyans will be a very difficult game, this game was good preparation for us and we need to duplicate this performance in a very important game next Sunday.”

Masango rounded off the scoring for the South African’s in Lobatse grabbing the fifth goal and said afterwards, “we started the move from deep I played a couple of quick passes with Bongani Ndlula and eventually I found myself in a one on one situation with the keeper.

As he came out I chipped the ball over him, it was a good team effort to set up the goal credit to my teammates.”

With the current political situation in Libya being unstable the South African Football Association will know later in the coming week if the game will go ahead or be postponed, the teams are scheduled to meet in the return leg next month.
