Kaizer Chiefs losing streak continued on Sunday afternoon when Amakhosi surrendered a 1-0 lead to lose by 3-2 in front of a packed Chatsworth Stadium in Durban.

This was Kaizer Chiefs second loss in a row in the Absa Premiership after losing their opening game against Thanda Royal Zulu. It was first time in the history of the Premier Soccer League that the Glamour Boys have lost their first two games of the season.

Kaizer Chiefs looking for their first win of the season started on a high note when Tshepo Bulu in as early as 6th minute finished off a superb pass from Gert Schalkwyk giving the striker his first official goal for the Glamour Boys. Itumeleng Khune, playing in his first official game of the season pulled a superb save denying former Kaizer Chiefs striker, Lucky Maselesele who had only a keeper to beat.

The visitors could have scored the second goal in the 33rd minute when Maritzburg United defence failed to clear a corner kick from Siphiwe Tshabalala but defender, Valery Nahayo blasted his shot against the cross bar.

Kaizer Chiefs who looked impressive going forward came close at the 36th minute when striker, Tshepo Bulu’s shot went over the bar following a excellent cross from the evergreen, Onismor Bhasera. Gert Schalkwyk should have done better minutes later when he miscued his shot after a superb run by Tshepho Bulu who had laid a wonderful pass to his strike partner.

Itumeleng Khune was at his best again when he pulled another superb save this time denying Tony Tsabedze. There was no denying the hosts though a minute later when from a resultant short corner, Sipho Mngomezulu fired home an equalizer after Kaizer Chiefs defence failed to clear the resultant corner kick.

With Kaizer Chiefs defence at sea, Maritzburg United took a lead when striker, Brice Aka scored a second goal for the home side with a low shot at the 47th minute. This was after Valery Nahayo failed to clear a cross a cross from Fadlu Davids.

In the 68th minute Gary Goldstone was lucky to remain in the pitch with just a caution after his elbow caught Tshepo Bulu in the face.

Ghanaian born defender, Jonathan Quartey hammered home an equaliser in the in the 7 minute after substitute Mandla Masongo’s header had come off the post.

Siphiwe Tshabalala wasted a glorious opportunity to put Amakhosi in front when with goals in his mercy the ball bounced off his knee to go wide following a superb run from substitute, Thuso Phala.

With five minutes to go striker, Fudlu Davids grabbed a winner for Maritzburg United after a good cross from Sipho Mngomezulu.

Chiefs’ woes continued at the 88th minute when they were awarded a penalty, this was after Tico Tico Bucuane was adjudged by the referee to have pulled down David Mathebula inside the box, but Richard Gilstrap pulled a superb save denying Jonathan Quartey from the spot. With the referee adding 10 minutes of regulation time, the visitors tried to get the elusive equaliser but found Maritzburg United defence in an uncompromising mood.
