Hosts Manchester United have been joined in the quarterfinals of the Premier Cup by local rivals Manchester City after both enjoyed a successful final group day at Carrington while Kaizer Chiefs had another bad day in the office losing 1-0 to Inter Milan in the morning and 2-1 to Korea.

United ran out winners of Group A after wins over MTK Hungaria and Chinese side Dalian Railway.

And despite losing their last game to defending champions Corinthians, City's good work on day one as well as a morning victory over Chonburi was enough to fire them into the last eight.

United will now face Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol while City take on Columbia's Deportivo Estudiantil tomorrow. In the other matches, FC Koln play Corinthians while PSG take on Dinamo Zagreb.

Red Devils coach Paul McGuiness said: "Everyone is delighted to have got through and the hard work we have put in certainly paid off.

"You can only take one game at a time but everyone is confident after the way we have played and we want to get to the final."

The tournament organised by Nike , the largest of its kind in the world for under-15 players, has brought together twenty teams from all over the world at Manchester United's training complex in Carrington.

For the competing teams there is the additional incentive that the final will be held at Old Trafford on Thursday evening while those who did not qualify play off against each other on Wednesday to determine their final tournament ranking.

With United on course to qualify in Group A after their morning 2-1 victory over Hungaria, the battle was on for second spot which Dinamo Zagreb took with both hands.

A goalless draw with with Estudiantes was followed up by a 3-0 triumph over Dalian Railway which sealed their route into the quarter finals. The Argentines finished strongly with a 2-1 over the winless MTK Hungaria to finish third in the group.

Group B finished in dramatic fashion with Japanese side Kashiwa Reysol stunning Alta Coma Arsenal to sneak into the next stage. Arsenal only needed a draw but Reysol scored midway through the second half to keep their dream of reaching Old Trafford alive.

PSG emerged as group winners following a win over Arsenal and a draw against Colo Colo, the Chileans finishing in fifth place with Slavia Praha earning an impressive draw with Reysol to finish a disappointing tournament on a high.

There were further twists and turns in Group C with defending champions Corinthians beating Manchester City 2-1 in the final game to emerge as winners and into a final eight game with FC Koln.

Earlier in the day, City kept up their good form with a 2-1 win over Chonburi who managed to earn their first point of the Premier Cup with a 0-0 draw with Atlas. Barcelona's hopes of reaching the final were dashed when they lost to Corinthians despite securing a win against the Mexican's in the first game of the day.The Spaniards finished third, ahead of Atlas and Chonburi.

The key moment in Group D came when Columbia's Estudiantil beat Inter Milan 1-0, meaning a draw in their final game against winners 1 FC Köln was enough to see them through.

The Germans topped the group thanks to a 2-1 win over Korean side Yongin who earned their first win in their final game thanks to victory over the Kaizer Chiefs who finished bottom with no points.
