Majoro, Dladla on target again

Two goals in as many matches from both Lehlohonolo Majoro and Josta Dladla saw Kaizer Chiefs outplay and outsmart Moroka Swallows in a 2-0 win in an Absa Premiership match at the Volkswagen Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto on Wednesday night.

Both teams came into the game on a high after winning their opening league matches, but that certainly did not look the case as the Amakhosi were the far superior team on the night.

Chiefs were better than their Soweto counter-parts in every aspect of the game. Their passing, their off the ball running and their finishing was out of the top draw and the Birds could have considered themselves lucky to only go into the half time break two goals down.

The biggest reason for Chiefs success was definitely their dominance in the midfield battle which was controlled by Siphiwe Tshabalala who almost seemed to open up the Swallows defence at will with fantastic through balls.

And it was an inch perfect pass from the Bafana Bafana left-winger in the 20th minute that resulted in the game’s opening goal. Tshabalala played Majoro through on goal and with only the keeper to beat the striker showed real composure to bury the ball past Greg Etafia, 1-0.

The Amakhosi only had to wait a further minute before doubling their lead, and again Tshabalala was at the heart of the provision as he whipped in a good corner that was flicked on by Tefu Mashamaite. The ball then fell into the path of Dladla who side-footed the ball home from a couple of yards out, 2-0.

The rest of the half saw Chiefs completely on top of their Soweto rivals and should have scored their third in the 40th minute.

Keegan Ritchie attacked down the left flank and provided a low cross into the box which was met at the front post by Majoro who then laid it back to Tshabalala, but his powerful six-yard shot struck the inside of the woodwork and bounced away from danger.

Two minutes before the half time break and Majoro wasted another great scoring opportunity. Tshabalala, again, slipped Major through on goal and instead of blasting the ball past the keeper, this time the new Chiefs man rounded Etafia, but skied his shot way over the crossbar.

The start of the second half saw Gordon Igesund make an immediate change as he replace David Mathebula with Macbeth Sibaya. Unfortunately, for him it did not have the desired effect as Chiefs continued to control matters in the middle of the park.

Chances were not as forthcoming for Chiefs, but they were bitterly unlucky not to score their third in the 66th minute

A well-worked counter-attack saw Tinashe Nengomasha with a shot from six-yards out that struck the woodwork for the second time in the game. The ball rebounded off the post and was finished off by Tshabalala, but the goal did not stand because the left-winger was judged off-sides.

The match finished 2-0 in favour of the Phefeni Glamour Boys who have six points from their first two league matches while Swallows suffered their first defeat of the season in front of their home fans.
