Kaizer Chiefs Communications Manager, Putco Mafani has sent a letter of apology to the offices of the Inkatha Freedom Party (IFP), for the joke he was sharing with friends after his club lost to rivals Orlando Pirates at the FNB stadium, when he jokingly said: "We accept defeat and are not like the IFP".

Mafani said the joke was not said with a derogatory intent as his club enjoys massive support from all people of South Africa regardless of their political affiliations or choices.

"I respect the IFP just like any other political party, and I, unreservedly apologize for the joke as it was not even meant for public consumption," said Mafani, adding that he was aware that, as reported, the joke has infuriated the party structures.

"It is not the club’s policy to mix soccer with politics or political preferences and all supporters of Kaizer Chiefs and those of the IFP should receive my regret," added Mafani.
