The Amakhosi were dealt a serious blow on Tuesday when the results of an X-Ray midfielder David Mathebula under went earlier in the day revealed that he had broken a bone in his right foot and will need to undergo emergency surgery on Wednesday to repair the damage.

Mathebula injured himself during Chiefs' goalless draw with SuperSport United in Tshwane this past Sunday, and had to be replaced in the second half by Thuso Phala. The injury to the twenty-four year old midfielder comes at a time when Mathebula was displaying some excellent form and his absence through injury will not be welcome by Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral.

Out of action

Mathebula will go under the knife on Wednesday morning at a clinic in Johannesburg and will have a screw inserted in his foot to fix his broken metatarsal bone, as Chiefs Physiotherapist David Milner explains that The Amakhosi will have to come to terms with having to do without Mathebula’s services for the next couple months.

Milner said “David’s X-Rays revealed that serious damage had been done to his metatarsal bone in his right foot. All that is going to happen now is that he will have surgery done to repair the injury and the medical staff have told the coach that he will be out of competitive action for up to three months.”
