Lebese aims for quarterfinal glory

Amakhosi striker George Lebese has told kaizerchiefs.com that he is hoping to feature during their Nedbank Cup quarterfinal clash against Baroka FC in Polokwane on Sunday as he aims to keep up his goal a game record for Chiefs in the competition this season.

Lebese scored in the two previous rounds of the competition for Chiefs during their 3-2 win over Nathi Lions in the round of 32 and was again amongst the scorers during their 4-0 victory in the last 16 win over BIDVest Wits and said to kaizerchiefs.com.

“It would be nice to score again, I am really happy that I have scored in the last two Nedbank Cup games and hopefully I can keep on going. If given the chance to play I need to convert my goal scoring opportunities, hopefully I can do just that and help us get into the semi-final.”

Lebese came on as a substitute during Chiefs win over Wits in the last round, and put the icing on a sweet performance by the Amakhosi as he drove home a delightful free kick in the closing stages of the match.

His hope is to duplicate the good fortune and finishing that he has had and demonstrated in front of goal in the Nedbank Cup against Baroka FC, “I have watched the free kick against Wits a couple of times.

It was the first time that I have scored from a free kick in my career, the funny thing is that I was not supposed to take it, as the position of the ball suited a left sided player I took it and scored. Scoring in the past two rounds has been huge motivation for me and it has upped my determination to score again.”

Although Baroka might be from the lower tiers of South African football Lebese is not looking down on the team from Limpopo who eliminated Moroka Swallows in the previous round.

“We only need to look back to our game against Nathi Lions to learn that whoever you playing against you need to score as many goals as possible early on, when we on the score board on Sunday we need to carry on attacking and scoring and cannot afford to relax like we did against Nathi.

We managed to come out on that occasion and we have that experience to guide us for the next round.”

George Lebese will conduct a live chat on the Kaizer Chiefs facebook page on Thursday 21-04-11 at 11h30
