The Macufe Cup in Bloemfontein on Sunday was an opportunity for the Technical Team to look at other players in the team and one of the players who might have impressed was centre back, Brent Lawler making his first appearance for the Glamour Boys.

Playing alongside, Tefu Mashamaite, Lawler did not put his foot wrong keeping Bloemfontein Celtic forwards at bay.

“It was good to get out there and play at last and I was delighted with my overall contribution. Communication is key when playing at the back and I think we communicated quite well as a defence,” said the visibly delighted Lawler after the 2-1 victory against Celtic.

“It has been a while since I had played a competitive game. I did feel a little bit tired but with the kind of fans we have…they push you.

“I am equally happy that we have returned to our winning ways. The past few weeks have been difficult for the team but today we played well and we deserved to win the game.

“We will go to Peter Mokaba Stadium high on confidence. It will be a different ball game though as compared to the Macufe Cup.

Lawler says he is going to continue working hard in improving his game, “I have been working hard since joining the Club in the preseason. I had a little bit of an injury but that is now behind me and I am focusing on improving my fitness and awareness. I continue to learn from my co defenders who have also been helpful.
