Kilambe doubtful for Maritzburg clash

After a high intensity game like Chiefs clash against Orlando Pirates this past Saturday, one would expect for the Kaizer Chiefs medical team to be working overtime tending to the wounded. Fortunately for Coach Ernst Middendorp and his medical team, they have not had much to contend with in the aftermath of Saturday’s thriller against Orlando Pirates at the FNB Stadium.

Although his team did come out mostly unscathed from last Saturday’s clash with Pirates the Chiefs coach does have to contend with an injury to striker Rotson Kilambe, who could in all probability will be unavailable for selection for Sunday’s game against Maritzburg United. Kilambe who entered Saturday’s game against Pirates as a second half substitute had some damage done to his knee during the game, which has seen the Zambian striker unable to train with the rest of his team mates.

Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner commenting on Kilambe’s injury worries said

“on Sunday Rotson complained about having some pain in his knee, upon further examination it was found that he had sustained damage to his knee. At the moment what we are doing is monitoring how he reacts to treatment and will take it from there”.

Kilambe’s injury has given Chiefs coach Ernst Middendorp some food for thought ahead of, what has been billed as a vital game for Chiefs on Sunday against Maritzburg United. “I have been informed that he has a problem with his knee and we will only be able to make a decision on his availability sometime on Friday, the thing is that we are in the fortunate position of having a big pool of player to choose from. Should Rotson not be available for Sunday’s game we do have other options available to us, for example Louis Agyemang has been looking sharp in training and this could open the door up for him” said the Chiefs coach.

In other injury related news midfielder Gerald Sibeko who had to be substituted at half time during the draw with Pirates, as he had sustained an ankle injury during the first half resumed normal training activities on Wednesday. As he works his way back to full fitness in order to be available for selection when Chiefs play Maritzburg United on Sunday. Sibeko has been in scintillating form of late and was Chiefs star performer when they defeated Amazulu in a league game, on the 6th of December.

A final piece of good news on the injury front for Ernst Middendorp comes in the form of Cyril Nzama, who has fully recovered from a hamstring injury, which has seen the Chiefs captain miss out on the Amakhosi’s last two league games. The games Nzama missed was Chiefs two nil victory over Amazulu on the 6th of December in Durban and this past Saturday’s draw with Orlando Pirates, Nzama last started a game for The Amakhosi on the 25th of November when Chiefs recorded a 3-1 victory over Black Leopards in Thoyandou.
