On collecting his award Khune who played three games during Chiefs title run where in they did not concede a goal said “I dedicate this award to Siphiwe Tshabalala and his family as they mourn the loss of his mother Rebecca who passed away on Sunday.”
For Khune this is the second time that he has won this particular award as he was picked up this accolade during Chiefs 2007 – 2008 triumph in the Telkom Knockout Cup, and he was pleased to have won the award for a second time.
A delighted Khune said to kaizerchiefs.com, “this year’s cup was in my opinion tougher than the 2007 – 2008 season and to be able to go through four games without conceding a goal is a remarkable achievement not just for me.
Also credit to Arthur Bartman who played against Free State Stars in the ¼ Final and he kept a clean sheet, my defence have been brilliant throughout and I must say thanks to them and the entire team and technical staff as well as the fans.
Chiefs goalkeeper coach Rainer Dinkelacker was delighted with the fact that another Chiefs netminder had picked up this award, “I am always very happy when our keeper wins this award in the past Brian Baloyi and Rowen Fernandez were winners of keeper of the tournament awards as well as Itumeleng previously and Arthur Bartmant last season.
Well done to Itumeleng for not letting in a goal in 270 minutes and Arthur for not conceding a goal in the game that he played in, Itu made one top class save in the final and that helped keep us in front and helped us. Winning a cup without conceding a goal is a really special achievement, credit to the keepers and the entire team for the work they put in”.
