Khune shoots for Stars
Khune shoots for Stars

Amakhosi keeper Itumeleng Khune missed out on Chiefs earlier meeting with Platinum Stars when the teams played to a goalless draw in October. He is looking ahead to playing in Wednesday evening's encounter against the much- improved team from the North West Province.

While Stars have been on the ascendancy, Khune believes that Chiefs too have begun to work their way back to form, and will be looking to shrug off their recent inconsistent run of results with a win in Tshwane on Wednesday.

Chiefs have won just one of five matches they have played since the league resumed just under a month ago, and Khune is confident that the visit of Platinum Stars could well see Chiefs win for the first time at home in 2008.

Ready to shine

Khune missed the match against Stars earlier in the season as he had returned from a trip with the national U-23’s and felt that he was not up to playing against the 2006 – 2007 Telkom Knockout champions. He is though looking forward to making his first appearance against them on Wednesday, and is relishing the challenge of trying to keep them at bay.

Khune explained “you always like to play teams and aim to defeat them when they are on the ascendancy, right now Stars have put together a good run of results and it will be a challenge playing them. If you want to test yourself and your abilities then what better way to do it then against a team who themselves have seen and up turn in their fortunes”.

End frustration

The Chiefs rookie, who has been having the time of his life during his first season in the top flight, feels that the past month has been a frustrating time and he is looking ahead to putting this period behind him as he said. “Looking back over the matches we have played since fixtures resumed I think we should have won a couple more games than we have, we have had played like we wanted to win maybe lady luck just has not smiled on us yet. You know that when you drawing or losing games that you should actually be winning, it gets you down as a team but we have now as a collective can change our fortunes”.
