Kaizer Chiefs reserve goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune suffered a major injury blow on Tuesday when he sustained numerous fractures on his cheekbone and upper jaw in training and will be out of action for some time.

The national under-23 keeper, who was on Wednesday included in Steve Komphela’s squad for the Mali friendly on November 15, was operated today (Wednesday) and will remain in hospital overnight.

The club is sending the young keeper home to Ventersdorp on Thursday. While it is not immediately clear how long it will take him to recover, he will however be under specialist supervision from the Chiefs medical team, who will then advise on his expected return to action.
