Khune can still improve – Dinkelacker

Goalkeeper Coach Rainer Dinkelacker insisted on Tuesday speaking to kaizerchiefs.com that Itumeleng Khune could still improve in his game.

Khune currently with Bafana Bafana after helping Chiefs beat Orlando Pirates on Saturday has played a big part that has seen the Glamour Boys only conceding 3 goals in 8 games in the Absa Premiership.

On Saturday though Khune did not only stop Orlando Pirates from scoring but was involved in build ups for the 2 out of 3 goals that were scored on that memorable afternoon.

This started when Khune was a youngster training with the first team. He would watch Rowen Fernandez practicing distribution after training. He would also join in of course because he has always wanted to learn. One could see that he was very special in hitting the side volley,”

I remember Clive Barker said during the Confederations Cup 2009 he has never seen a goalkeeper who kicks like Eric Cantona. I have also not seen any goalkeeper in the world who distributes like Itu (Itumeleng Khune),” said Dinkelacker who has been credited for developing Khune after he was promoted from the Chiefs development structures.

Dinkelacker has warned though that Khune has a long way to go, “He is getting better every season - no doubt about it - but he can still be much better than he is doing now. He needs to marshal and organize his defence better. Goalkeepers are privileged that they can read the game - watch for openings, etc.

I always talk to Khune that though he is doing well…he knows he has a long way to go. I also give credit to the other goalkeepers here at Chiefs and the national team who have pushed him very hard this season,” added Dinkelacker who has earned a nickname “Clean-sheet” from kaizerchiefs.com.

Meanwhile Khune and his Bafana Bafana teammates are expected to line up tomorrow for the Nelson Mandela Challenge game against USA at Greenpoint Stadium in Cape Town. Kick off for the game is at 21:30.
