Katsande came on in the second half for Chiefs during Wednesday’s league loss to AmaZulu. He says he is not holding back and is working very hard to ensure that he is back to his best physically after missing all of January’s games through injury. “What I am doing at the moment is working hard every day, trying to stay fit and focused,” he says. “What is most important when not playing is supporting the guys who are on the pitch, keep myself fit and motivated.”
While Chiefs’ recent run of results have not pleased him, Katsande is happy to have featured in the team’s last two league games as getting out on the pitch has proved to be valuable for his recovery. “Coming on against AmaZulu was good for me because I really wanted the minutes in my legs to reach match fitness, to help the team turn the corner and achieve our objectives,” he adds.
Katsande who is a league winner with Chiefs in the 2014-15 season, says he is not happy with the team’s recent results and is willing to do whatever it takes to help spark a turnaround in results for Amakhosi. ”Losing three games in a row is not a nice thing especially when you are at Kaizer Chiefs. We need to work on changing our fortunes as a matter of urgency.”
The Zimbabwean international feels that Chiefs’ current situation of losing three successive games in all competitions is something that the team is not used to and wants to put it out of their minds as quickly as possible.
“We are not known for losing three games in a row,” he admits, “it is a tough pill to swallow. At the end of the day, we can change things tomorrow by preparing adequately for the game against SuperSport. We are looking forward to turning the corner.”
The ideal way according to Katsande for Chiefs to get the tonic they need will be a morale boosting win against SuperSport United, who are Chiefs’ next opponents in the DStv Premiership on Saturday.
“SuperSport are tough opponents,” he says in conclusion. “It’s all about who wants it more. We know it’s going to be a tough one. We are going to apply ourselves and put into effect our game plan. The good thing is that we are at home. We need to get the victory because it is our last game before we kickstart the Group Stage of the Champions League.”
“We go into the game with positive vibes and a positive mindset. But we have to face it like professionals, and we have to defend our badge. Importantly, we play with the objective of winning three points. We need to keep focus, pay attention and not lose focus at any stage of the game. We must focus for 90 minutes because games are decided in critical phases.”
Chiefs will face SuperSport on Saturday afternoon at the FNB Stadium at 15:00. The match Chiefs’ 17th league game of the season and will be televised live on DStv Channel 202 and SABC 1, with commentary on SABC radio and regular updates on Twitter @kaizerchiefs.
