Kaizer Chiefs will host ZESCO United in their fourth game in Group D of the 2025/26 TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup at the Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban, on Sunday 1 February, with kickoff at 15h00.
Chiefs were 1-0 winners in Ndola on Sunday when the teams met with Pule Mmodi scoring in the 2nd minute to hand Chiefs a 1-0 win on Match-Day 3.
This is the fourth time the sides are meeting. ZESCO have two wins to Chiefs single victory. All three previous games have produced a winner.
Victory over ZESCO on Sunday was Chiefs’ first win in CAF Competition against Zambian opponents, with three losses and a draw previously.
Chiefs and ZESCO are meeting for the third time in CAF Competition. ZESCO won both matches in the 2018/19 CAF Confederation Cup play-off round, defeating Chiefs 5-2 on aggregate.
ZESCO won the first leg 3-1 in Ndola, with goals from Lazarous Kambola and a brace, including a converted penalty, from Jesses Were. Khama Billiat scored for Chiefs. The second-leg saw ZESCO win 2-1, Teddy Akumu and Were scoring for the visitors, while Billiat again scored for Chiefs.
Chiefs are the only team to have kept a clean-sheet in meetings between the sides, and have also scored in all three of their meetings against ZESCO. Prior to Chiefs’ win on Sunday, both teams had scored in their previous two meetings.
Chiefs are hosting Zambian opponents for the third time in CAF Competition. In addition to their 2018/19 loss to ZESCO, Amakhosi lost a CAF Cup game 2-0 to Nchanga Rangers in 2000.
Victory over ZESCO on Sunday was Chiefs’ first win in Group D, while ZESCO have lost all three of their group games.
Overall, Chiefs’ record against Zambian teams reads P5 W1 D1 L3.
Amakhosi are playing a CAF game at Moses Mabhida Stadium in Durban for the first time since hosting Raja Casablanca at the venue in a CAF Champions League, first round, first-leg match in 2015, which they lost 1-0 and 3-0 on aggregate.
Moses Mabhida Stadium is the fourth stadium that Chiefs are using for to host a game in this seasons CAF Confederation Cup. They met Kabuscorp in the first qualifying round second-leg at the FNB Stadium in Johannesburg, winning 1-0 and triumphing in the resultant penalty shoot-out. Then, they defeated SC Simba 3-1 at Dobsonville Stadium in Soweto in the second qualifying round, second-leg, and hosted Zamalek in the group stages at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane in a game that ended 1-1.
Chiefs and ZESCO have common links, with Lazarous Kambole and Kenyan International, Teddy Akumu, having played for both teams.
