Kaizer Chiefs fans were on Saturday involved in a car accident between Mafikeng and Lichtenburg. The Cathedral Branch was travelling from Mafikeng back to Durban after a fun-filled Telkom Charity event. The branch was travelling in a mini bus and the accident left the driver, Sibonelo Khoza, in a critical condition. The passengers in the mini bus have already being discharged.

Public Relations Manager, Siyabulela Makunga and Supporters Relations Manager, Cecil Motaung visited the patients early on Sunday at the Mafikeng Provincial Hospital.

“On behalf of the Amakhosi family we are saddened by what has happened to our supporters who left their families to dedicate their valuable time to support Charity. There is an urgent need to reduce car accidents on our roads and this should be a collective responsibility in ensuring that our roads are accident free. We had to come here this morning to check the situation and also to offer support to the injured persons. We wish all of those supporters a speedy recovery,” said Siyabulela Makunga.

Cornelius Monama who was at hand to offer the injured supporters food and moral support on behalf of Provincial government said to kaizerchiefs.com, “On behalf of the North West Provincial government, I wish all the supporters of Kaizer Chiefs who were involved in a car accident on Saturday night a speedy recovery, and those discharged from Mafikeng Provincial Hospital a safe journey back home. Their unparalled passion for soccer, their loyalty to Amakhosi and their commitment to supporting those less fortunate, conspired to take them all the way from both the Free State and KwaZulu Natal to Mafikeng".

Monama further thanked all the supporters for supporting the noble event on Saturday.

Cecil Motaung has confirmed to kaizerchiefs.com that all the supporters have been released and travelled back home on Sunday with the exception of the driver, Sibonelo Khoza who is waiting for a transfer to Addington Hospital in Durban.

Amakhosi's family wishes all the supporters a speedy recovery!
