Kaizer Chiefs Head of Development, Walter Steenbok have described the recent SAFA level II (Phase II) Coaching Course as a massive success.

The former Northern Cape Department Sports Arts and Culture employee who joined Kaizer Chiefs kraal last month attended the course with legend, Doctor Khumalo. The course was held in Germiston from 26-03 August.

Walter has been entrusted by the Club to turn around the Kaizer Chiefs Development that has produced the likes of Jabu Pule (Mahlangu), Nhlahla Khubeka, Itumeleng Khune, and Michael Nkambule to mention just a few.

“The course dealt a lot with conditioning inside football, match analysis, match reports, sports medicine and the effects of energy systems in football” he said.

“The excellent way to prepare for coaches is focusing on the implementation plan and periodization issues in football.

Both Vodacom Challenge and Telkom Charity Tournament were fully discussed in terms of physical abilities required at this level. Overall the SAFA courses are informative, interactive and a must for all football students.

“It is important for youth coaches too attended these courses because in this game you just never stop learning the latest trends in football. I would love to see our youth coaches at Chiefs in future going for exchange programmes overseas” he added.
