The Johannesburg Super Kings were in attendance at the FNB Stadium on Wednesday to see Kaizer Chiefs claim a thrilling 2-1 Betway Premiership victory over Stellenbosch FC. The win was made sweeter by the fact that it coincided with Amakhosi's 55th anniversary celebrations.

The presence of the T20 cricket franchise was a testament to the growing partnership between the two Johannesburg-based sports teams. The collaboration, which began last year, aims to promote and create a sense of community among fans.

At halftime, representatives of the two teams exchanged jerseys, in a ceremonial symbolising their commitment to the partnership. The Super Kings’ South African-born New Zealand international, Devon Conway, expressed his enthusiasm for the budding relationship, telling www.kaizerchiefs.com, "Two very strong, powerful teams in football and cricket representing Johannesburg .I think it's fantastic to be a part of it all, and long may the relationship continue.”

Amakhosi were well-supported by a decent crowd against Stellies and Conway praised the electric vibe at the stadium.

"It was special to be invited; it was really cool to watch,” he said, “I got to meet a couple of the players, and walking around the field was special, the atmosphere was amazing. The people are very passionate, and we are very fortunate to be here."

Super Kings batsman, Sibonelo Makhanya, echoed Conway's sentiments, saying, "I think it's an awesome partnership. The Kings are coming together, and we are going to epitomise what Joburg is about. So, it's two big teams combining, and I think it's been a long time coming.”

Makhanya, a self-proclaimed Kaizer Chiefs fan, also paid tribute to the team's illustrious history. "I think it's a huge achievement; they have achieved a lot in the past 55 years, and moving forward, I want to wish them all the best for the next chapter with loads of dominance and success," he added.

The Super Kings, who are preparing for their upcoming SA20 matches which begin on 11 January, 2025 at the Wanderers Stadium, will count on the support of Kaizer Chiefs, as the partnership between the two teams is set to continue, with Chiefs aiming to reciprocating the gesture by attending Super Kings SA20 matches.

The collaboration is a win-win for both teams, allowing them to tap into each other's fan bases. As Conway aptly put it, "All the very best to the Kaizer Chiefs players, staff, and management, and especially to the fans - keep enjoying what you do. We support you always, no matter what, and good luck for the rest of the season."
