Kaizer Chiefs and national U-20 goalkeeper, Thela Ngobeni has described the opportunity to play in the World Cup in Egypt later this month as a ‘lifetime’ opportunity.

The East Rand born goalkeeper was speaking to kaizerchiefs.com from O.R. Tambo International ahead of the departure to Alexandria, Egypt where the team will be based for the duration of the tournament.

“We are all excited about the opportunity to take part in such a prestigious tournament…it is a lifetime opportunity,” said the excited Ngobeni.

The Amajita, as the U-20 national team is affectionately known had a week camp in Bloemfontein ahead of the departure to the land of Pharoahs.

“The camp was a very successful one. I am happy that everyone is here in the camp and all of us are looking forward to the tournament. We all know that it is not going to be easy but we are willing to fight.”

The tournament happens just before the World Cup in South Africa next year and the feeling from the guys here is to do well for the country and hopefully catch the Bafana Bafana coach’s eye ahead of the next year’s tournament,” added Ngobeni who has fully recovered from the injury sustained mid August.

Thela will be writing a weekly diary for kaizerchiefs.com while in Egypt and you can also catch him and teammate, Mandla Masango live on KCTV (Kaizer Chiefs TV) on Thursday, 24th September at19h30 on SS4.
