Tinashe Nengomasha did all that he could to ensure that he would be fit for The Amakhosi’s Nedbank Cup last 16 match against Mamelodi Sundowns, that he fought to over come an Achilles tendon problem to be able to make it into the starting eleven at the ABSA Stadium in Durban. Nengomasha was aiming towards celebrating progression to the last eight on Sunday evening, instead it was a distraught and down heartened Nengomasha who sat for hours in the corridor outside his hotel room with his head faced down wards contemplating what might have been.

Gutted

Nengomasha who had put in a sound showing against Sundowns saw his dream of finishing the season with a second trophy lay in tatters, and he could not come to terms with Chiefs elimination from the competition. He believes that they should have been in the hat when the ¼ Finals draw takes place on Wednesday. He spoke of his disappointment to kaizerchiefs.com and said “I could not sleep so I sat up most of the night thinking about this, I have this very empty feeling inside of me as I know this is not the result that should have been. It is easier to come to terms with losing a match where in you played badly, but to dominate for so long and do all the hard work and lose is hard for me to understand. I gather that is football you have to live with winning and losing, it will take me a few days though to accept this loss, it has been a while since I was so upset after losing a match”.

Moving on

Chiefs now shift focus to their remaining seven league fixtures and will be aiming to end off amongst the top eight, in order to qualify for next season's top eight competition a failure to do so will according to Nengomasha be a disaster.

He said “it will take me a day or so to come to terms with us, I will get home Monday and sleep it out and be back at training on Tuesday morning to prepare for Swallows. We can not let our fans down for a second consecutive season our hope now is to win as many of our remaining matches as possible, and hopefully consolidate our places in next seasons top eight competition with two or three games to play”.
