Sibeko returns to training



The Kaizer Chiefs physio’s room at The Amakhosi’s training ground in Naturena Southern Johannesburg has been a busy place recently, as team physiotherapist David Milner and his assistant Lloyd Morgan have been working over time in guiding a number of the clubs first team staff back to full fitness. Since Chiefs resumed league matches earlier this month they have been besotted by a number of injuries to key personal, with the likes of Shaun Bartlett, Fabian McCarthy and Thabo Mooki. Having to watch from the sidelines as they have been nursing various injuries, ranging from calf strains to ankle strains.



Below is a list of Chiefs players currently recovering from injuries:



Gerald Sibeko



With the start of a new week has come news of recoveries and new injuries to various players, the positive news is that midfielder Gerald Sibeko who missed Chiefs game against Cosmos with an ankle injury will resume full training on Thursday. Sibeko who has displayed some neat touches in recent games is looking forward to getting back into the swing of things on Thursday. As he added “the doctors have said that I am good to begin with training, I hope that I will be able to fight my case to be part of the game on Saturday”.



Siphiwe Mkhonza



While Gerald looks forward to getting onto the training ground on Thursday defender Siphiwe Mkhonza has been given the week off as he tends to a bruised knee, Mkhonza injured his knee during Chiefs loss to Cosmos at the weekend and was substituted late in the game. Mkhonza is expected to sit out Chiefs game against Ajax Cape Town on Saturday evening, and will resume training on Monday and should be available for selection for Chiefs crucial league game against defending PSL Champions Mamelodi Sundowns on the 3rd February.



Siphiwe Tshabalala



New Chiefs signing Siphiwe Tshabalala is set to under go an artho scope on his knee on Thursday, to determine if there is any ligament damage to an injury which he had picked up a few months ago while still with his former team Free State Stars. Chiefs physiotherapist David Milner sheds further light on the situation “I was aware that he was carrying a knee injury when he teamed up with us, we need him to under go the scope so that we can ascertain exactly what is wrong and start a rehabilitation programme for him”.



Other injuries news



Striker Shaun Bartlett has begun taking steps towards making his come back which is expected to be some time in March, Bartlett who picked up an injury on the 6th January during a league game against SuperSport United. Has for the past fortnight been doing rehabilitation work in the gym, and is making steady progress towards a full recovery. Defender Fabian McCarthy suffering with a calf strain looks set to resume full training with in a week and like wise veteran midfielder Thabo Mooki, should also be on the training ground inside the next seven days. Mooki has been battling with an ankle injury, but does seem to be winning the fight and is expected to start training late next week.
