Kaizer Chiefs technical team are dealt a minor setback with injuries to four key players as they prepare for the crucial Coca-Cola Cup quarterfinal clash against Ajax Cape Town at Ellis Park on Saturday.

Midfield sensation Stanton Fredericks is battling with a groin injury that has been on and off for some time now. The same injury ruled the star midfielder out of the 1-0 Premiership victory against Jomo Cosmos at FNB Stadium on Saturday.

Team physiotherapist David Milner says Fredericks will not be going for operation. "He has been to a specialists and had a scan. He is currently busy with rehab," says Milner.

Meanwhile, defender David Kannemeyer is also battling with an injury sustained while on national duty with Bafana Bafana in the matches against Lesotho and Costa Rica where he aggravated his inner thigh muscle.

Utility midfielder Nhlanhla Kubeka - who is yet to make an appearance this season – could be out for some time after breaking his toe at training four weeks ago. Kubeka has been battling with a series of injuries since his promotion from the Amakhosi Youth Academy.

Junior "Aghahowa" Khanye injured his quadriceps muscle at training last week but should be ready in the next week.

The Amakhosi medical team will assess all the injuries on Wednesday to ascertain the extent of the damage.
