Kaizer Chiefs midfielder, Gerald Sibeko has told kaizerchiefs.com that he is waiting with bated breath for his return to the team after sitting out for almost three months because of troublesome quadriceps.

“Tso” as the player is affectionately known in football circles returned to full training in January after a long lay off. His last appearance was back in October in a 4-1 Telkom KO away defeat in the hands of Golden Arrows.

“I miss the game,” said the soft speaking midfielder who joined Kaizer Chiefs first team from the Club’s youth structures back in 2000/2001 season.

“I have been pushing myself hard at training even doing extra training to make sure that I am in a required fitness level.

I am also not getting any younger, which means I have to put more at training in order to get back to the team,” said Sibeko.

Gerald played his best football towards the end of 2007/8 season and was rewarded with a call up by coach, Joel Santana. However the troublesome injury prevented him from travelling to Nigeria with Bafana Bafana, eventually missing the three games that were played in June last year.

He returned during preseason games and was instrumental as Chiefs beat Mamelodi Sundowns during the Telkom Charity Cup but again, he was forced to watch on the side lines as Chiefs lifted the inaugural, MTN 8 back in September.

However the diminutive midfielder revealed to kaizerchiefs.com that he has put his injury woes aside and is now focusing on getting back to his best to help the Club challenge for the league honours.

“That was a severe injury and I am glad it is all over,” he said.

“I have of course been following the team’s progress. We have really been playing well since the beginning of the year, consistently winning three games in a row. We came close beating Ajax Cape Town where we settled for a draw.

On Saturday night, despite playing well we lost to Swallows but all is not over. We want to win the league this season, and we believe that we there with other league contenders,” he added.
