The Amakhosi once again conveyed their condolences to Patrick Mayo whose mother, Ms Kholeka Mayo, passed away after a battle with cancer, as Chiefs sent a delegation of players and members of the management team to the funeral.

Ms Mayo was 52 when she passed away peacefully on Monday, 14 August 2006. The funeral was held in Motherwell, Port Elizabeth this past Saturday the 19 August 2006 with a number of Mayo’s teammates at Chiefs on hand to lend him their support.

Present at the funeral was captain Cyril Nzama, who told kaizerchiefs.com “It is important that we are teammates both on and off the field. We attend the funeral to show our support and love for a member of the Amakhosi family who has been struck by tragedy. Our prayers and best wishes are with Patrick and his family.”

Also present were Rowen Fernandez, Shaun Bartlett, Emile Baron, Ditheko Mototo as well as supporters club manager Cecil Motaung and Communications manager Thebe Mohatle.

Mayo appreciated the gesture from his club and saying; ”I would like to take this opportunity to thank the management staff together with the players who came to mourn with me. My family were further honoured, but the respect and the dignity they shown towards my late mother by the club in general and particularly those who attended the funeral. Words only cannot explain the way I feel. In Xhosa we say ‘Ukwanda kwaliwa ngumthakathi - Zenenjene ke nakubanye".

Rest in Peace Kholeka Mayo 1954/01/03 - 2006/08/14.
