Kaizer Chiefs hosted an MTN Open Media Day today where journalists around Johannesburg had an opportunity to watch players being taken through their paces by the technical staff at the Kaizer Chiefs village ahead of the decider against Soweto rivals, Moroka Swallows this weekend.

The Village was also graced by the presence of two Ghanaians, Listowell Yesu who is a Head of Sports at Kapital Radio in Accra together with his compatriot, Samson Deen who is a Chief Executive Officer, African Origin Travel.

The two gentlemen were in the country as guests to the national broadcaster, SABC and are jetting out of the country on Thursday afternoon.

“We are impressed by the facilities here...the Open Media Day, these are staff that you get to see in Europe. We have travelled around the world and what we saw here today is world class.” said Samson Den.

Burkarson added, “I was impressed with the hospitality here. The players came out greeting and interacting with the media. I was watching the training and the organisation was superb. The facilities here like my compatriot has said, are great. The players are training all wearing the same kit like they are playing in a real game.

This is a lot if you consider that this club was only established in 1970. Clubs in Africa have a long way to go in matching the standards of Kaizer Chiefs calibre. Hearts of Oak were established in 1911 while Asante Kotoko, one of the giants in African football was formed in 1935 but they have a long way to go in meeting these standards.

Clubs in Africa should all follow what Kaizer Chiefs is doing for us to take our football to the next level. South Africa has all the facilities, infrastructure all they need now is a competitive teams to compete in African competitions and off course a national team to compete in the next World Cup. I watched the match against Australia on Tuesday and signs are there...all the best” he said.
