The beginning of a new week has rung in better news for Kaizer Chiefs on the injury front, as the Amakhosi begin to prepare for their crucial PSL clash away to Classic in Durban this coming weekend.

Chiefs welcome back midfielder Gert Schalkwyk who was given the week off last week as he was recovering from a hamstring injury. Schalkwyk has begun jogging and will be looked at again on Wednesday and if all goes according to plan, he should be at full training by Thursday.

Schalkwyk who along with his midfield partner David Mathebula were missing from Chiefs 5-4 ABSA Cup victory over first division side City Pillars, Mathebula did not play over the weekend as he travelled to the Limpopo province to attend the funeral of his late mother who had been suffering through a lengthy illness. Mathebula will once again be missing this weekend, he will be back at training on Monday the 03 April 2006.

Also missing from Saturday’s game was Derrick Spencer who was in Durban for the funeral of a family relative. Spencer returned back to training on Tuesday morning.

Defender’s Fabian McCarthy and Jimmy Tau will also be available for selection for the weekend game against Classic. McCarthy missed training most of last week as he was suffering from a bout of flu. Tau was unavailable for selection against Pillars as he was serving a one-match suspension after receiving his sixth yellow card of the season a week earlier against Moroka Swallows in a league game.
