Amakhosi striker Kaizer Jnr has come out in praise of midfielder Gert Schalkwyk who has been in good form of late most recently netting a brace for Chiefs in a friendly game against Ajax Cape Town in Newlands this past weekend.

Schalkwyk has already scored his fair share of goals this season scoring in his first ever start for the Amakhosi when Chiefs drew with Swallows in October, Gert also famously scored against Pirates later in October to help Chiefs record their first victory over the Buccaneers in two seasons.

Schalkwyk continued his rich vein of form into the mid season PSL break and has scored three goals in two of the friendly matches he has played in. His goals include a brace against Ajax and another that he netted against FC Moscow of Russia in January.

"If you look at the gaol scoring opportunities that have been created for me during games, it is evident that Gert has been at the forefront of supplying me with chance upon chance," said Kaizer Motaung Jnr. The young striker continued to ring praise upon Gert by adding "when I scored against Golden Arrows Gert was at the forefront of creating the goal, I never realized how important he is to our success until recently."

Gert who joined Chiefs at the start of last season kicked his heels for most of the 2004-2005 season as he made brief substitute appearances for Chiefs. Under Ernst Middendorp, new life has been breathed into the young midfielder.

Amakhosi coach Ernst Middendorp has also sung praises for Schalkwyk. "When I first came I said Gert needed to put more into his game, he started fighting for his place with amazing results and it is evident to everyone that Gert is now an integral part of our set up."

Gert himself is confident that a good showing at club level will help land with the opportunity of becoming a Bafana Bafana regular with the 2010 World Cup his ultimate aim.
