Germany, home of The Kaiser, makes way for world football fanatics

Germany, home of the Kaizer, and the host nation of this year’s World Cup, can be described as electrifying and full of football crazy fans. Football fanatics who eat football, bleed football, sleep football and live football, have traveled from all over the world to support their countries. WM (Weltmeisterschaft) fever has certainly swept over the continent and the World.

The streets are cluttered with different accents, flags and colours as WM attendees celebrate the hot summer weather. Shops and restaurants are filled with eager supporters, as most, if not all of them have screens, plasma screens, and are showcasing all the games. Larger screens have been placed throughout the country where those not able to attend games can enjoy the ambiance, thrill and excitement of being in the stadium without really being there.

Wherever one goes in Germany, even in Austria (Saltzburg), home of Classical musical Legend Mozart, one runs into the familiar name of Kaizer (Kaiser). Kiazer Chiefs merchandise is also available in Nike Concept Stores with many people identifying with the Kaizer Chiefs brand and some individuals wearing the emblem of the ‘Mighty Amakhosi’.

My hope is that South Africans are watching and learning, if anything, much work is needed on our side. Can we fill a stadium that hosts a Tunisia vs Saudi Arabia game as has been done there? Can we reach the standards set in Germany in creating and maintaining interest and support? Finally, will travelling from city to city be easily accessible and safe for World Cup visitors?

If we can, then the FIFA World Cup 2010 will be an unforgettable experience for visitors from the world, UNFORGETTABLE, as they can only experience it in true African style.

After WM 2006, all roads lead to S.A. and all eyes are on S.A. Lets make this one historical and a world class experience!
