The Management of Kaizer Chiefs, Staff and players received with sadness, news of the passing of Mr. Gabriel Tikkie Khoza, the former defender for Amakhosi.

Mr. Khoza passed away on Monday 30th January 2006 at the Helen Joseph Hospital after a long illness.

Famous for his towering and uncompromising arial defence, he together with Petrus Ten Ten Nzimande, Ryder Skipper Mofokeng, Buick Makwati and Gerald Umgababa Dlhamini, formed an impenetrable wall during Kaizer Chiefs’ league and championship campaigns in the mid-70s.

Like his colleague Kaizer Motaung, Tikkie also played for Olando Piratres and later joined Amakhosi when the Phefeni Glamour Boys were fast rising in stature as a powerhouse of South African football.

Ryder Mofokeng, the former captain of Kaizer Chiefs describes Tikkie as “a gentle giant who was always available to generously serve the club and his fellow playing mates’.

Jacob Terror Sephooa, one of his fiercest rivals at Moroka Swallows who now coaches the Kaizer Chies Under 13 Development side remembers Tikkie as a tough yet humble opponent who won almost ball played in the air.

We at Kaizer Chiefs appreciate his contribution and express our heartfelt condolence to the aggrieved family of our former icon. May God sooth the hearth of his beloved relatives and those that grew to know Tikkie Khoza as a dedicated sportsman.

May his soul rest in peace.
