No sooner had they arrived for their pre-season briefing, the Amakhosi players had to get ready for their first test of the pre-season campaign as the players were divided into groups and sent for fitness tests.

The first group consisting of about ten players were sent along with Physiotherapist David Milner to the University of Johannesburg for a series of tests to check on what kind of training will be needed to get the players back into the training regime.

David Milner explains further “we have planned it such that each player will go through a Cybex Strength test as well as a lactose test and a general physical fitness routine.

We are doing this to check on the current physical standing of all the guys because they have been out of action for so long and we need to slowly reintroduce them to a training routine. We need to be aware of what kind of introductory training is needed first up as it will not be wise to get the guys training two times a day without having any knowledge as to what state their body is in at the moment.

We are also checking if any players picked up any injuries during their time off and also to see how well players who were carrying injuries have progressed”.

The second group of players will do the tests on Tuesday with the assessments of the players being given to Milner early Tuesday evening.

Once the results have been studied and analyzed appropriate training will be done. The first introductory training session is set to take place on Wednesday morning. Once the players are in the correct physical shape - the team will begin normal technical and tactical work.
