Kaizer Chiefs pleaded guilty to charges laid against them by the Premier Soccer League disciplinary committee, as a result the Amakhosi were fined accordingly when they made representation in front of the leagues disciplinary committee on Tuesday evening. Chiefs were appearing before the DC to answer charges relating to the behaviour of some of its fans, at the end of Chiefs ABSA Premiership game against AmaZulu in Durban on the 5th December. The club had to answer to charges brought against them by the league, which emanated from the fact that some fans had pelted the referee Buyile Gqubile as he tried to enter the player’s tunnel at the end of the game. As a result Chiefs were R120 000 half of which has been suspended for a period of twelve months and the remainder of the fine is payable immediately.

Also appearing at the DC was Chiefs coach Muhsin Ertugral who was alleged to have directed foul and abusive language at the referee during the same match on the 5th December against AmaZulu. The Chiefs coach received a fine and has also been imposed with a two game touch line ban, the fine is worth R50 000 and is suspended for a year, Ertugral’s touch line ban starts this weekend when The Amakhosi host Black Leopards on Saturday evening in Tshwane.

Better behaviour

Reacting to the fine laid on the club by the disciplinary committee Amakhosi director of communications Thebe Mohatle, has pleaded to Chiefs fans to be calm at matches and not resort to violent acts particularly directed at match officials. Mohatle said “we have in the past and will continue to condemn in the strongest way possible violence at any of our matches. We urge the fans to refrain from throwing missiles onto the pitch although there are occasions when decisions go against us; it is no justification for violence. All of these fines hurt the club in its pocket and this money could be better spent on other areas, that could be better long term investments for the club”.

Ertugral accepts

Ertugral has accepted the leagues decision to suspend him from sitting on the bench for Chiefs next two matches, speaking to kaizerchiefs.com Ertugral said. “The disciplinary committee has ruled in a certain way and I can not argue with what they have laid down, I will now have to watch the game from the stands which might be a good thing as it will give me a different view of the game”.

Although he will not be on the bench Ertugral though will still be able to deliver his final pre match words and half time comments to his team, as he explained. “I will still get to talk to the boys before the game and during half time in the change room, it might work out better for them not having me on the side lines who knows we will just have to wait and see”.
