Johannesburg, Tuesday, January 19 - LIMPOPO football fans will get a first-time glance at the brand-new 45 500 seater Peter Mokaba Stadium when it hosts the inaugural Peter Mokaba Cup. Three Premier Soccer League sides, Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits, PSL log leaders SuperSport United and the visiting team, Brondby FC (from Copenhagen, Denmark) will lock horns in the matches to be played at the venue on Saturday,, January 23.

The tournament format will feature two semifinals and a winners’ final. The opening match between Supersport United and Brondby FC will kick off at 10am, followed by the clash between Kaizer Chiefs and Bidvest Wits at noon, with the final match set to kick off at 5pm.

“The Peter Mokaba Cup affords us the chance to celebrate the life of the ANC stalwart, Comrade Peter Mokaba, as well as the rich traditions of SA football, in the soccer festival featuring Supersport United, Kaizer Chiefs, Bidvest Wits and our international visitors, Brondby FC,” said Ndavhe Ramakuela, 2010 Director in the City of Polokwane.”

“The Peter Mokaba Stadium is a venue that should make all South Africans proud, not just those from Limpopo, and we are delighted to play our part in this most historic of occasions.

“We know that this event will be well supported by the people of Polokwane and Limpopo, who are passionate about their football, but also their achievements as a city. We look forward to enjoying the day of celebration with them.”

A maximum of 30 000 tickets will be sold for this tournament as the stadium management seek to test the stadium’s systems and processes by slowly building up to the full 45 500 capacity.

The tournament organisers are completely focused on providing a safe and secure sports entertainment package. This prestigious annual event will see the teams display their skills of the beautiful game, a fitting way to introduce local fans to their sparkling new sports facility. Fans are urged to bring their families along to enjoy and have fun.

To add to the festivities of the tournament, there will also be dee-jays and live performances by local and upcoming artists. Refreshments will be on sale from the food-stalls situated in the stadium, through the main entrance.

Computicket, Checkers, Checkers-Hyper and Shoprite outlets throughout the country are expected to be a hive of activity today, when the much-awaited Peter Mokaba Cup match tickets go on sale. Tickets cost R35, all categories, and entrance is free for physically challenged persons.
