The Amakhosi received a major morale booster the day before their key Telkom Cup ¼ Final match against SuperSport United when a group of fans from the Kaizer Chiefs supporters club branch based in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape made a special presentation to the Amakhosi after training on Saturday morning.

As the team concluded training they were given an appreciation award for their dedication and commitment to the club, knowing that their fans are behind them helped work in favor of Chiefs on Sunday as they defeated SuperSport to advance into the semi finals of the Telkom Cup for the first time since the 2004 – 2005 season.

Chairman thanks

Amakhosi boss Kaizer Motaung was unaware that the Mthatha branch had intended to hand over the gift, which was a mirror inscribed with the branches commitment, appreciation and support for the team under any circumstances.

The chairman commented on the award “I really was caught un aware that our supporters from the Eastern Cape were intending to hand over this commerative inscription to the team. We always have and will value our fans and most importantly for the players are always to remember whenever they take the field that there are millions of fans behind them. This motivational gift will be hung up inside the players change room at the village so that they will for ever think about the people who are behind them”.

Nzama the inspiration

Chiefs defender Cyril Nzama who came on as a second half substitute during Chiefs win in the Telkom Cup over SuperSport United, said that the appreciation shown to them by the Mthatha branch and the large number of fans who turned out in Tshwane on Sunday were the inspiration behind the Amakhosi’s surge into the semifinals.

As Nzama said “ when we heard that this branch travel all the way from the Eastern Cape for every game it really touched us to see that we have such passionate support, driving up to the game we seen literally thousands of people walking towards the Stadium. The streets were lined with gold and black when you get that kind of fan support there is no way you can disappoint them, with the backing of our troops we could not do anything else but win on Sunday”.
