Ertugral preparing Amakhosi for double dose of Sundowns

Muhsin Ertugral grimaced late on Sunday afternoon as it became clear that The Amakhosi would be facing Mamelodi Sundowns in the Telkom Cup Final on December 1st.

Chiefs and Sundowns will only find out on Tuesday a day before they face each other in an ABSA Premier League Match, at the ABSA Stadium in Durban where they will do battle for the R4.25 million cash prize up for grabs for the team winning this years Telkom Knock Out Cup. Ertugral was not too worried about the Cup Final for the mean time and is instead focussing his attention on the trip to Durban, for Wednesday’s league game against Sundowns instead.

Repeat Success

Over the next fortnight Chiefs will go head to head with Sundowns two times the first meeting comes up in just a couple of days times, and Ertugral who has never lost in a Cup Final to Sundowns having beaten them on all three occasions that he has lead his team into the final match of a tournament against the Brazilians will be hoping that on December 1st he came make it two Cup Final wins with two different teams over Sundowns in the same year. Ertugral’s only ever defeat to Sundowns in a cup game came in the 2001 BOB Save Super Bowl ¼ Finals, when Chiefs were defeated 2-0 by Sundowns at the FNB Stadium.

Ertugral’s last meeting with Sundowns in a Cup game was just a few months ago in May this year, when he lead his former team Ajax Cape Town to ABSA Cup glory over Sundowns.

When Chiefs and Sundowns do meet on December 1st Ertugral will be aiming to do what he did with the The Amakhosi in the 1999 BP Top Eight and what he achieved in the 2007 ABSA Cup with Ajax Cape Town and taste Cup Final success against Sundowns in the final of the 2007 Telkom Cup Final.

Two times Sundowns

So it is two meetings against Gordon Ingesund and his men for Chiefs over the next two weeks and it is their next meeting on Wednesday evening that occupies Ertugral’s attention at the moment, he understands the challenges posed by the up coming games against Sundowns.

As he says “playing the same team twice just a few days apart is not going to be easy, the scenario of the two games are very different, and the outcome of each game will have varying consequences.

What is important four us as a team is to worry about the league game and we need to get going again in the league with a win on Wednesday, we won’t be holding anything back and will go all out in Durban”.
