The Premier Soccer League (PSL) have hatched an elaborate logistical operation to make sure the championship trophy is delivered to the winners of the league at the end of Sunday's season finale.

Arch rivals Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates share top place going into the final round of fixtures but the winner will be definitely presented with the trophy, even though they are playing in stadiums 450 km apart.

Defending champions Chiefs, who have a superior goal difference, travel to Bloemfontein Celtic while Pirates, who were champions two seasons ago, have a home match against Umtata Bush Bucks in Johannesburg.

The league trophy is to be placed in a helicopter at Kroonstad, a provincial town almost midway between the two cities.

"We will have the helicopter in the air just before the final whistle and then it is question of heading in the right direction," explained the league's chief executive officer Sizwe Ndzimande on Friday.

"It is 30 minutes flying time to Johannesburg and 35 minutes to Bloemfontein.

"By the time all the celebrations and the television interviews have been completed, the copter will have arrived at the appropriate stadium to deliver the trophy.

"We felt it would be an insult to the teams after a long and very competitive season to possibly present one of them with a dummy trophy so we want the real thing to be delivered to them in front of their fans."

The winning squad will also received their championship medals although the league have struck two separate sets and will have one in each of the venues on Sunday.
