Durban to host Supa 8 final

For the second season running Durban will host the SAA Supa 8 knock-out final to be contested by Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United on October 2, the Premier Soccer League (PSL) has announced.

Last years inuagural competition between Jomo Cosmos - the eventual winners - and Moroka Swallows was held at the Kings Park soccer stadium in the East-coast city.

United booked their place through a 6-5 penalty shoot-out win against Wits University after the match ended deadlocked 1-1 while Chiefs sailed through with a 1-0 win at the expense of Swallows.

Durban's Absa Stadium was given the thumps up following an incredible response by the supporters who broke South African records for pre-booking when tickets for the Supa 8 semifinal between Chiefs and Swallows were sold out two days before the event.

Initially there was talk that the final could be staged in Limpopo at Peter Mokaba Stadium or Soccer City but both venues automatically fell out after Chiefs made it through.

With Soccer City being used as Amakhosi’s home ground, United could have strongly objected to the use of the venue on the basis that it would have given Chiefs an unfair advantage and Peter Mokaba Stadium could not meet all the requirements and challenges that come with the hosting of such a big match.
