Amakhosi initially signed Spencer in the off-season but a protracted legal battle saw Hellenic win the right to sign the player. But Amakhosi never gave up and kept negotiating with the troubled Cape Town club who finally agreed to sell the player to the Glamour Boys.

The young utility player signed a three-year deal on Friday and featured for Amakhosi against SuperSport United on Sunday in the Thomas Madigage Benefit. He is a multi-functional player who can operate in different areas on the field. “He (Spencer) is definitely one of the best players coming in our ranks. I feel his love for Kaizer Chiefs was the main factor in him coming back here because a number of teams were also after him,” says Dumitru.

The Amakhosi mentor says there has been progress regarding players who were on the injury list. “We have succeeded in with Rene Richards who has now fully recovered. Although it was a tricky back injury, he has managed to overcome that and will have his place back in the team if he does well at training.

“We still have problems as far as David Kannemeyer is concerned as he was not hundred percent when he left with the national team. As for the rest of the players, we do not have any serious problems,” he says.

“We have already played one friendly match against Supersport United as part of our plans during the Nations Cup. No friendly match can match the intensity of a competitive match but it’s better than nothing.

“The most important thing for us, as I indicated in the past, is to have a backup lineup ready to supply players should a need arise.”
